Rogues MC Choppershow

Every year on the easter weekend, the Rogues MC puts on a choppershow. I think THE most interesting show in the Netherlands. Nice bikes, good atmos, I'm there.

I have a booth at the show, some of Short-Cuts bikes will be there, as well as Floris Velthuis' 1-Off (first public appearance) and lots of other interesting bikes. See you there and be sure to come and say hi.

Ahhhhh, finally, after months of cold, snow and salt on the roads, a nice & sunny day.
Time to get your toys out!
Took a lovely drive today in the Green Machine. Scared some pedestrians, burned some fossil fuels, a good time was had by all.

I'm off to Mexico for two weeks so no new posts for a while (unless I find something worth posting in the Yucatan peninsula).

SR500 Springer finished & delivered.

Yesterday I delivered the tins for the SR500 springer at Short-Cut Choppers.
Here's how it looks:

 

It's a shame that the full effect of the flakes can't be captured in photo's. Of course we will also have to wait to see the finished product when the pipes, seat, lights etc are done. Hopefully it will be ready for the Rogues MC Motorshow, april 4th in Opmeer (NL). There you will be able to see it in person.

Experimenting with paint effects.

Tried a new paint today. Bought some cobweb ready to spray liquid.
Strange stuff, comes out of the gun like cotton candy. Gives a great effect over a dark kolor, though.

 You can add transparant Kandy after that, to give it some Kolor. The first coat of kandy I sprayed was too heavy, dissolving the cobwebs and yielding this interesting effect.

 

I also painted some samples of Eerie-dess, a slow drying pearl-paint. You can create all sorts of interesting effects by pushing plastic or aluminium foil or a sponge etc into the wet paint.

 

Here's a helmet I made a few years ago. It's a bowling helmet. I decided to repaint it because the original paint was damaged.

It's better than bad, it's good!

SR500 flaking.

So here it is again. Flaking the SR.
First, a gunmetal base with some pearl mixed in.

 

Then mixing the flakes in a cup of clear.

 

Several layers later...

 

  

  

Tomorrow some more clear and then the logos and stripes go on.

Paint archeology.

Sometimes when I start to sand away layers of paint to prepare a tank for new kolors, I stumble upon hidden treasure.

I traded this sportster  a long time ago to use as a demonstration piece for some of my special paint skills. It was blue and had some paint damage. I stabbed at it with a putty knife and the blue layer came off.

Then came the kandy red. You can see it in the picture. Transparant Kandy red with a gold base underneath. Under that, a grey primer/sealer and under that a yellow spray filler.

Sanding further down through the layers, going back in time... And suddenly....

What's this?!? Looks like flakes and fades? Better slow down the sanding! I cleaned off half the tank to reveal this masterpeice:

  

It even shines a little when you wipe it with cleaner.

Unfortunately ther is some major damage at the front. Showing yet another layer of blue (probably the factory paint).

 

So I decided to paint over it again and bury this ancient mid seventies paintjob for future generations.

If you want to save this paintjob (talking to you, Tjebbe) better call me quick, because tomorrow, I'm covering it with primer!

But first, here's the helmet with the Roth Monster flakes after 9 layers of clear.

 

I think I'll have a smooth surface after 3 or 4 more layers. Then I'll add some graphics, keep watching!

Meanwhile, I started shaping the tins for Short-Cut Choppers' latest: the SR500 springer.

Plan is to shoot it with Roth "Glass House" flakes. Here's a sample:

 

Yep, it's rainbow-kolored. I can hear you say:"But aren't rainbows gay?"

 

So today I did some sanding, grinding, welding and filling, followed by primer. 

 

  

  

Tomorrow will be a day of sanding and filling. Then flakes again!

Roth Flakes: Window Pane.

Tested some more flakes today.
I had this helmet I bought at the Rogues show last year lying around. Had been wondering what to do with it.

 

I received these flakes in the mail from BSClassic Parts. They sell the whole line of Roth Flakes. Sorry for the crappy pics, I forgot my camera and shot this with my phone...

I cleaned & scuffed the surface of the helmet and proceeded to add flakes and lots of clear.

 

  

SHAZAM!

Tomorrow I'll add more clear and I'll take some decent pics with my camera.

Roth Flakes tested

Tested some Roth flakes the other day. Whaddaya think?

"It's flakes, Jim, but not as we know it."

This one is called Glass House.

 Small, spike-shaped flakes with a strong prismatic effect for those pretty rainbow kolors. 

This is called "Overdose". It's the biggest flake I've ever sprayed. Diamond-shaped, it too has a great prismatic effect. It's a little like staring at broken glass during an LSD-trip.

It will take a LOT of clear to bury these!

El Disastro Wheels

The wheels of the Puch were partially polished. I taped off the polished parts and sprayed the rest in a nice metallic red. Here's the result, bitchin'!

Next is the boring stuff: polishing and touching up. I can't wait to see it when it's finished.

El Disastro Cherry Outline

After the koloring with Aztec Gold Kandy, this is almost the last step. Adding more kolor with cherry red outlines and lettering.

First wet sanding all the nooks and crannies of the frame for 2 hours.


Then taping the outline and placing the stencils for the El Disastro and PSR logos for a few hours.

Spraying custom mixed cherry red.
