If you're following this blog you may have noticed I'm not posting that often anymore.
That's because I'm over on Facebook most of the time.

Acrylic Mojo
It's been awhile since I have painted anything on paper, using acrylic paint. It took me some time to get re-aquainted with the materials but I like the result.

Crazy Frank Pearl Cobbweb, the final throws
After the cobbweb effect was sprayed on, I layed down 10 layers of clear, last week.
Then I sanded the fender and rougly taped off some panels. Then I sprayed black and some more clear. The next day, I sanded down the fender and the surface was finally smooth, so it was time for some silver leaf.
I wanted to match the sportster tank I did earlier so I took some measurements and used them to accurately tape off the panels.
After laying down the tape, I first sprayed a dark fade with the airbrush.
Then some omre taping and silver leaf.
Now I have to do some touch up and then the final layers of clear. Tune in next time for more Special Paint adventures!

The circle of life
I painted this sportster tank a few years ago to try out the cobbweb effect. It turned out pretty sweet and I later sold the tank to Rob to dress up the Ledsled Customs showroom. Rob sold it to some guy who was building a bike but the guy decided it didn't fit his ideas.
Then friend Niels bought it and now it's back with me. Along it's travels, it has made a new friend; a Crazy Frank fender.
Niels wants to use these for his new project and has asked me to match the paint of the fender to the tank. I'll have to try to recreate the green, using a pearl white base with mint green Kandy. But first, it's time for sanding, filling and primering.
Stay tuned for more.

Bagger Pinstripes
Last saturday Mr. Martin came by the Kustom Korner to pinstripe Rob's bagger. He did a good job laying down some classic lines. A subtle job that suits the style of the bike very well.

I wish I could...
..take better pictures! These don't do justice to Rob's bagger I just finished. Spent the day in the Short-Cut Choppers workshop, putting the bike back together. It turned out great! To repeat the immortal words of the great Hannibal: "I love it when a plan comes together."

Reanimated!
Today is a great day. I got to start my Tatra 603 for the first time in 3 years. After changing a hardened rubber seal on the fuel pump, it started right up, JOY!

Bagger paint
After playing with the Vreeble, me and Rob weren't really happy with the results on the bike tins so we decided to go in another direction. I will leave the gold flakes panels as they are now and instead of painting the rest black (which is sooo 2011), I wanted to try brown. It's the new black, you know.
It's a BMW kolor called Marakesh Brown. It looks a chocolate brown until the light hits it and it turns to a karamel hue.
Instead of painting HD logos or using stickers, we ordered some metal emblems from W&W cycles. They fit the style of the paintwork very well. I plan to do off-white outlines on the panels, and I will match the kolor to that used on the emblems.
Unfortunately, the emblems are made for a much rounder tank, so they don't fit. The pointed ends are resting on the tank's surface and the middle is still 1-2 cms away.
I predict some grinding in the near future.
